Confidence in a learning algorithm specifies the likelihood of an occurrence or the likelihood of data falling into distinct classifications. If a class has a high probability, it also has a high level of confidence. A confidence value can be produced for a single input as well, indicating how sure the algorithm is in that class.
In other words, a Confidence Score is a number between 0 and 1 that shows the probability that a Machine Learning model’s output is valid and will meet a user’s request.
ML is vital at various phases of the processing of the user request in Conversational AI:
- During Natural Language Understanding (NLU), ML predicts the Intent from an utterance
- During Automated Speech Recognition (ASR), ML will predict the transcription of what the user said based on the audio.
- ML predicts the sentiment or the emotion based on the user speech or the dialogue transcript during sentiment or emotion analysis.
- ML will anticipate what to answer from the user’s speech during Natural Language Generation (NLG).
- ML will predict the audio from the answer text in NLG during Text-To-Speech (TTS).
